EAST COAST SKIRMISH (Recd. 9.25 p.m.) LONDON, Sept. 27. An Admiralty communique says: Our patrols intercepted several groups of E-boats off the east coast of Britain. A number of gun actions were fought before the enemy withdrew eastwards. Several enemy craft were severely damaged and at least one was sunk. We lost a trawler. MORE ENEMY LOSSES. RUGBY. September 27. The sinking of a large enemy supply ship off the French coast last night is reported. She was attacked by motor torpedo boats of the Netherlands Navy, supported by our light coastal ships. A torpedo hit was scored amidships. ' A report from Cape Town announces the sinking of a U-boat in the Indian Ocean. South African aircraft first spotted the submarine off the African coast and attacked it. Later it was spotted on the surface by aircraft, which dropped depth charges, and there was an. explosion and oil came to the surface.
