FAMINE IN BENGAL
RUSH TO CALCUTTA.
CALCUTTA, Sept. 27. Thousands of people from the rural areas are now attempting to reach Calcutta in the hope of finding food there. Many people are dying by the roadsides. 'lt is estimated that one hundred thousand are destitute and starving in Calcutta City. The hospitals, of the city are filled to their capacity. Fifty thousand tons of grain has reached Calcutta within a month. The death roll is nevertheless mounting. Newspapers which normally are friendly are bitterly, attacking the New Delhi Administration for its lack of foresight and of planning. " „
