DAYLIGHT SAVING.

CANBERRA, September 22. Daylight saving is to be introduced again this Summer throughout Australia. This was decided to-day by the. Federal Cabinet. It will begin with the advancing of the clocks by one hour at 2 a.m. on Sunday. October 3, and will last until 2 a.m. on March 26. FEDERAL OPPOSITION. CANBERRA, September 27. Meetings of the United Australia Party and the Country Party were held to-day. The Parties decided to operate as separate entities within Parliament. Thus they are breaking their working arrangement that has been in existence for some years. Mr. R. G. Menzies was elected Leader of the U.A.P. It is the largest party after the Government. He thus will also be Leader of the Opposition. Mr. W. M. Hughes, who led the United Australia Party in the last Parliament, did not seek reelection, but was elected Depu + yLeader. Mr. Fadden was re-elected as Leader cf the Country Party. MEAT RATIONING., MELBOURNE, September 22. The rationing of meat for civilians, by coupon, will be introduced in Australia in the near future. The ration will at least equal that of Canada, two pounds of meat per person weekly. This is much, higher than in most of the warring countries. Meat production in Australia is not keeping pace with the demand. The latest estimates indicate that next year requirements, based on normal civilian consumption, will be one-third higher than the probable production. The authorities emphasise that Britain needs every ounce of meat that Australia can send to her, and that huge quantities will have to be supplied to fighting forces in the South-west Pacific and South Pacific. The Australian and jthe American soldiers are sent about one pound of meat each per day.
