CHRISTCHURCH, August 19 Fat sheep sold at slightly improved rates at the Addington sale yesterday when hoggets met with ..n in-ci-eased inqutoy. The beef .section was irregular, but baconer puces advanced further. , „ Fat sheep: The best oi the ewe noggets made from 27/10 to 30/9, medium to good 23/6 to 26/9. and small 1(5/- to 22/9. Wether hoggets made from 22/3 to 24/6 and others 16/6 to 18/10. The best quality ewes m lamb to Southdown rams made up to 26/9, medium 18/9 to 22/6, and inferior 16/3 to 18/-- 0 205 wethers sold from to -8/.j, and the balance of the oiicrmg, a pen of old merino sheep, made 10/u. Spring lambs: There was a yarding of 21, ranging from small and unfinished to some of heavy quality. The highest price was 48/1 for two lambs, and the next best was 39/6 for three. Other good lambs sold from 37/1 to 38/ 4 . and light iambs made down to 27/-. . Fat sheep: Extra prime we/ne,s, to 49/10. Prime wethers, 44/10 to 47/10. Prime medium-weight wethers 38/7 to 42/4. Ordinary wethers, 31/- to 35/-. Extra prime ewes to 43/1. Prime ewes, 37/10 to 39/i. Prime medium-weight ewes, 31/- to 35/7. Light ewes, 15/- to 18/-. Fat hoggets. The top price was 50/7 for a single hoggel. the best average (43 '-j was secured lor 62 from 41/I lo 49/7. Another line ol 20 made from 41/4 to 47/4. Medium to good sheep realised from 35/10 to 38/10, and a line of 61 light hoggets brought from 22/4 to 24/7. Fat cattle: The entry was larger than that of last week, numbering 517 head, as against 433. Truck lots from the Coast, the south, and the usual prime contribution from the Peninsula, made up a good display. Extra prime heavy steers, £23 to £25 17/6, show steer, £3O/7/6. Prime steers, £l9 to £2l/10/-. Primo me-dium-weight steers, £l6 to £lB/ 0/-. Ordinary steers, £la/15/- to £l4/10/-. Light steers, to £l3/5/-. Extra prime heifers, to £l9/17/6. Prime heifers, £l3/5/- to £l5/15/-. Medium £lO to £l2/15/-. Light heifers, to £9 10/-. Extra. prime cows, to -U? 17/6. Prime cows, £ll to £l3/15--. Medium cows, £B/5/- to £lO/15/-. Light cows, to £B. r-11/1/ Vealers: Rest runners, to £ll/1/-. Medium to good. £7/17/- to £3/9/-. Best vealers. to £B/17/-; average, £6 to £7/5/-. Large calves, to £3/IZ/6; medium, to £3/5/6; small, down to £2/1/-. . , Store cattle: The entry contained a draft of 50 odd bullocks from overseas. A few of the line were forward enough to be sold in the 1M Pe lis , where they made up to £l4/17/6. me line consisted for the most part of aged huge framed Shorthorn cross steer’s empty and gaunt-looking after a hard ‘trip, and they sold remarkably well. One pen of eight made £l3/7/G. nine £l2/13/6 nine £l2/6/-, two £l2/5/-, nine £ll/11/-. nine £ll/3/-, six Black Polls £lO JB/6, and three £ll/18/6. A pen of Black Polled station cows from the same quarter sold at £6/15/-. Other lines from local districts sold at £7 16/- for 12 18 months to two-year Friesian heifers, £5/3/6 for nine empty Friesian cows, and 11 hciler calves at £4.
Dairy cattle: The standard of the offering was improved by the entry of a herd of 22 springing cows and heifers—l 6 second to fifth calvers and six heifers. They were Friesians and Shorthorn crosses and the cows sold at an average of £lO and the heifers at £B/9/-. In the ordinary penning, best second, third, and fourth calvers made from £l7 to £lB, medium sorts PIO to £l2. average £7/1.0/- to £9, rough and inferior from £4 upwards. Heifers were few in number, the best making to £l2/10/-, medium £7/10/to £l2, small and backward £4 to £6/10/-.
Fat Digs:’ Light porkers, 39/6 to 46/6; medium. 48/6 to 58/6; heavy,. £3/1/6 to £3/9/6. Choppers, £4/5/to £9/18/6. Light baconers, £4/4/6 to £4/19/6: medium, £5/4/6 to £5/17/6: heavy, £6/5/6 to £7/1/6. Store pigs: Small weaners, 14/- to 17/6. Best weaners, 21/- to 23/-. Slips, 24/- to 27/-. Small stores, 28/to 30/-; medium, 32/- to 34/-; large, up to 36/-.
