Mr J. W. Ferriday^,hemp expert of the Flax Planning Industrial Committee, Wellington, has returned to Greymouth after an extensive tour of the West Coast.

Mr. A. J. Bannister has been appointed Deputy Registrar of Births and Deaths for the district of Brunner, according to an announcement in the Gazette.

The late Mrs. Sarah Caroline Ngoungou, who was kidnapped as a child by Maoris in 1873 and was brought up as a Maori, was an aunt of Mrs. Bert AVilson, of Kokiri, being a sister of Mrs. Wilson’s late mother.

Motions of condolence were passed at a meeting of the Grey Electric Power Board, last evening, with the relations of the late Mr. P. BlanchHeld, senr., and the late Mrs. T. E. Coates.

Mr. H. G. Dickie. Opposition member of Parliament for Patea, is to be married shortly. Mr. Dickie had previously announced his retirement from Parliament at the end of. this session because of eye trouble. He and his twin brother, Mr. C. D. Dickie, are well-known bachelors of the South Taranaki district, and have lived together all their lives.

The death occurred at the Grey Hospital this morning, of Mr. Charles Dale, of Punakaiki. Deceased, who was a native of Tapanui, Southland, worked for a number of years as a telegraphist at the Greymouth Post Office but for the past 30 years he had been farming at Punakaiki in. partnership with Mr. E. Apted. He was a keen horticulturist and his garden at Punakaiki had attracted district-wide interest. In his youth he was well known as a swimmer and in other branches of athletics. He was single and is survived by his mother, one brother. William, (both of Tapanui), and two sisters Misses Rose Dale (Christchurch) and Frances (Tapanui). The funeral will take place at Karoro Cemetery on Saturday afternoon.

Rew R. A. Blampied, minister of the Church of Christ, Greymouth, who will leave next Monday, en route to Nelson, where he has accepted a charge, was, last evening, tendered a farewell by members of the congregation. Mr R. J. Truman presided and speeches were delivered by Messrs R. V. Carruthers, R. Reynolds, Haig (Hokitika!), G. M. Truman, Mrs Absalom (Reefton), and Rev. E. S. Hoddinott (President of the Greymouth Ministers’ Association). The presentation of a woodbox, fire screen, and cheque was made to Mr Blampied by Mr C. L. Hunter on behalf of the congregation, while Miss B. Truman made a presentation on behalf of the Girls’ Life Brigade, tributes being paid to both Mr and Mrs Blampied. Mr Blampied was also made a presentation by the Ministers’ Association.
