VITAMIN RESEARCH
NEW YORK, May 18
The American Association for the Advancement of Science _ has announced the synthesis of biotin—nature’s most powerful vitamin and also one of its rarest and most costly substances. The synthesis is regarded as one of the greatest achievements of modern chemistry. The world s entire supply of this super-vitamin, which is a member of the B family, totals about one tenth of an ounce. It was heretofore extracted largely from liver and was so costly and rare that only minute amounts measured in millionths of a gram were available to research workers, who bought it at a rate of four million dollars an ounce.
