RUNANGA BRANCH MEETING.

The fifteenth annual meeting of the Runanga Sub-Branch of the Plunket Society was held on Thursday, the Mayor (Mr. E. Kennedy) presiding. The following members were present: Mesdames Timlin, Flood, Hall, Grogan, Griffiths, Theyers, Thompson, Farquhar, Cairney, Campbell and Outhwaite. The election of officers for the ensuing year resulted: President, Mrs. Timlin (re-elected); secretary, Mrs. Howard; treasurer, Mrs. Flood (reelected) ; vice-presidents, Mesdames Barker and Theyers; committee, all present, with power to add; trustees, vice-presidents. The balance sheet, showing a tq-’ tai credit of £54/10/1, was received as satisfactory. , rri , The annual report stated: The Branch, once again, is fortunate m being able to report a successful year, both financially and in membership, there actually being a larger number of members for the year than in any previous year. Nurse Peace has been of valuable assistance to the Society, and to the mothers and babes generally. At various times during the vear, the Committee, with the. nurses assistance, has handled the distribution and sale of oranges as they came to hand, all profits from these sales going to patriotic purposes. The Committee expressed sympathy recently with Mesdames Wylde and Auld, in the sad loss of their daughters In July, Mrs. Wafer lost her son while on active service, and to her and her family also, the Committee extends its deepest sympathy. In March of this year we were most unfortunate in losing the services of Mrs; Martin, and the Committee met to bid her farewell and to make her a small presentation as a. gesture oi thanks for her willing efforts to assist the Society during the past few years. There was a very generous response to the annual house-to-house collection. At an E.P.S. trial held during the year the Plunket Aids took their part in the proceedings. Our thanks are due, as always, to our auditor, Mrs. Tailentire, to the Press, and to others who have given of their time and energy during the year. I wish to take this opportunity of expressing my keen appreciation and thanks to the Committee, past and present, for its kindness and consideration to me during my four-year term as Secretary. Nurse Pearce’s yearly .report stated: No. of visits to district, 52. No. of visits to homes: Old, 180; new, 83 No. of visits to Rooms: Adults, 665; babes, 636; older children, 35; total, 1336. New cases, 40. Cases under supervision at present: Babes, 44; older children, nil. General progress has been good. As in other parts, oi the district, heavy colds in the Spring and diarrhoea in the Summer months have retarded progress in some cases for a time. Nurse Pearce thanked the Committee and those in Runanga who had been so kind and extended so much hospitality to her during the year.
