BRITAIN’S HOME GUARD
INSPECTION BY THE KING. _ RUGBY, May 16. The King took the salute at a parade of the Home Guard in Hyde Park, in celebration of the third anniversarv of the formation of the force. Over 5000 officers and men, representing units throughout the country, paraded. The Irish Guards Band maintained a sequence of march tunes during the march past. The King was greeted by the Secretary of War (Sir J. Grigg), General Paget and Lieutenant-General J. L. Devers, the newly-appointed Com-manding-General of the United States European forces, who was introduced to His Majesty. The Home Guard wore battle order and marched six abreast. The King saw the efficiency with which the men handled their weapons, and congratulated them. He later inspected the equipment in their possession.
