RUNANGA BRANCH MEETING

The Runanga W.I. held the monthly meeting in the Druids’ Hall. Mrs. Barker presided over a good attendance. New members and visitors were welcomed. Mrs. Johnson read the aspirations. Mrs. Thompson gave an interesting demonstration of pap-ier-mache doll,s. It was decided to have afternoon meetings m the Druids’ Hall this year. During the social half-hour Mrs. Key won a competition and Mrs. Issacs played selections on the piano-accordion with community singing. The President presented Mrs. Outhwaite who is leaving the district, with, a gift and good wishes. Competition winners were kitchen cushion, Mrs. Armstrong I, M rs - Griffiths 2. Marble cake, Mrs. I attiuson 1, Mrs. 2. BLA’KETOWN. At the Elaketown W.1., May meeting, Mrs. Mann presided over a good attendance. Visitors were welcomed also one new member.. Moffo lor month, “Better a small deed done, than a great deed intended.” The roll call brought forth good ideas for the birthday party. A demonstration on cleaning mats was given by Mrs. Mann. A musical competition was won by Mrs. Sheard. Competition winners: Apple jelly, Mrs. Dowell 1, Mrs. Moreland 2 and 3. Sugar bag article, Mrs. Graham. Blaketown 1, Mrs. Herring 2. Bowl of chrysanthemums, Mrs. Thompson 1, Mrs. Mann 2, Mrs. Graham (Blaketown) o. Hostesses were: Mrs. Henderson, Hillmann, Gordon, Griffin, Hicklmg, Graham, and Graham (Blaketown). KOTUKU At the monthly meeting of the Kotuku Women's Institute Mrs. Brereton presided. _ Competitions were won as follow: Ginger biscuits, Mrs. Bell 1, Mrs. W. Brereton 2. Shortbread, Mrs, Dalzeil 1, Mrs. Radford 2, (All entries in these competitions were donated for soldiers' parcels). Vase of foliage, Mrs. P. Brereton 1. Mrs. Ball and Mrs. AV. Brereton 2. Five new members were enrolled. Mrs. Dalziel was appointed to attend an Institute conference _ in Christchurch. After the meeting members entertained friends in celebration of the ninth birthday of the Institute. Two humorous plays were nresented.
