MONTHLY MEETING

fOUB OWN CORRESPONDENT.] HOKITIKA, April 21. The Hokitika Borough Council met last evening. The Mayor, Mr. A. R. Elcock, presided over the following members: Crs. T. W. Duff, K. Aitken, E. W. Heenan, L. S. Ross, W. H. Stopforth, C. Callari and G. Heinz. The financial statement: Receipts £1,320/19/5, expenditure £1,204 ■2/4. Accounts amounting to £1,199 were passed for payment. Abattoirs report: Stock slaughtered lor month of March amounted to 45 cows, 36 heifers, 46 bullocks, 253 sheep, 98 lambs, 29 pigs, 6 calves. Condemned, nil. Fees collected for month amounted to £lO3/2/1. Fees tor the corresponding month last year were £9B/10/11. The foreman's and sexton’s reports iwere approved. The action of the works committee in purchasing a new horse was approved. • The Council decided to remove further trees in Cass Square. Mr. W. H. A. Stopforth applied for permission to instal a septic tank at his premises in Revell Street. —Granted subject to usual conditions. Mr. S. J. Roberts and fourteen other petitioners protested against the suggested removal of street light at the corner of Hoffman and Stafford Streets.—-Light will not be removed. Mrs. Janet Rae, North Livingstone Street, pointed out that the Street light is on the west corner of the intersection of Livingstone and Park Streets, which does not illuminate the open drain on the east side of the block and asking that- a street light be placed midway on the east side of the block. —Referred to Works Committee. , _ Mrs. Ellen Haddock, Stafford Street, wrote asking that the drain along the j pontage of her residence be cleaned out as flooding is caused in wet weather through the drain being blocked.—Left to Works Committee for attention. Mr. Andrew Wells, applied for the use of a small piece of Gibson Quay road reserve on the south side of the Kanieri tram and about opposite the pumping station, for the purpose 01. grazing a cow.—Granted. The" Branch Manager, State Advances Corporation of N.Z., Nelson, wrote noting that the Council has unrkr attention the condition of the roads in the vicinity of the State Rental Houses and requesting that the Council again give consideration to ithe acceptance for responsibility by the Council of the outflow drain from the septic tank. —Referred to Works Committee for a report. Hokitika Beautifying Association advised that at the last meeting of the Association objection was raised to ithe practice of a tradesman in Tancred Street using the roadside as a dumping ground for refuse from his Workshop.—Referred to Town Clerk. R. Ireland, Jollie Street, applied for grazing rights on unformed street and asking what rental would be required.—Approved providing applicant keeps down growth and keeps fences in order.
