[OUR OWN roRRKSPONDErJT.I REEFTON, April 8. Rev Father Butler, who has been Parish Priest at Reeftoil for eight years, and who has been transferred to Eltham, was farewelled at the Parish Hall. There was a large attendance, including visitors from Waiuta, Ikamatua, and the Grey Valtoy. A musical programme was provided by Mesdames Buist, Misses E. Malloy, M. Lockington, Misses Buist (2) Master David Buist, Miss Archer and Mr W. Sanders. The accompanists were Mesdames Buist and Archer and Misses Archer and Buist. Mr Nevin expressed regret at the transfer of Father Butler, who, he said, was held in great esteem by not only his own flock, but by membeis of other denominations. Father O’Brien spoke of the work of Father Butler among the young people of the parish. He had been greatly helped by Father Butler in his work. . Mr F. W. Archer (County Chairman) said he was grateful to Father Butler for his help and good advice in civic matters. They had always found Father Butler interested in the well-being of all the community. He tendered an apology for the absence of Mr J. B. Auld (Hospital Board cnairman) who was ill, and from Mr Auld he brought a message of thanks to Father Butler for his comfort and help among hospital patients. Mr E. Elliston, for the Society of the Holy Name, and the St. Vincent de Paul Society, spoke of the good work performed among the poor by Father Butler and of his work among the men of the parish. Mr W. Hempseed expressed the regret of the Waiuta parishioners at Father Butler’s removal. Mr G. Mclnroe, for the Ikamatua parishioners, made a presentation of an envelope of notes to Father Butler. Father Phelan (Westport), Father Healy (Kumara) and Father Brown (Ahaura) also spoke. Mr Nevin made a presentation of a sum of money to Father Butler and voiced the regret of the parish at thcloss of their priest. Father Butler responded. Rev. Father Nolan, who succeeds Father Butler, was welcomed to Reefton. Father Butler left yesterday for Eltham.

At the Reefton Magistrate’s Court, before Mr G. G. Chisholm, S.M., Thomas H. Coghlan was fined £3, with costs 12/-, for having possession of an unlicensed wireless set. For a similar offence David Hamill was fined 10/-, with 10/- costs. S. H. Griggs, for operating a heavy motor vehicle in an unsafe condition, was fined £3, with 10/- costs, and for operating a heavy motor vehicle and not having a heavy traffic license for it he was fined 10/-, with 10/- costs, and for operating a motor vehicle without a warrant of fitness for it he was ordered to pay 10/- costs. In a claim for overtime, N. Barkle v. Waitahu Coal Mining Syndicate, for £36 17/9, plaintiff was given judgment for £4/5/3. with costs £2/5/- In a debt claim J. W. Osborne v. A. Norris and G. Norris judgment was given for .plaintiff by default for costs £3/14/6. Mr Frank Robertson (Wellington) is visiting his parents, Mr and Mrs D. AV. Robertson, Reefton.
