LATE MR. PAIKEA
WELLINGTON, April 7
The following message has been received by the Governor-General (Sir Cyril Newall) from the Private Secretary to the King: “The King much regrets to hear of the death of the Hon. P. K. Paikea, and will be glad if you will express his sympathy with the Prime Minister and the Government in their loss.”
The Prime Minister (Mr. Fraser) has received a message from Mr. H. Tai Mitchell, of Rotorua, expressing his and the Arawas’ regret at the loss of “an earnest enthusiastic and soberminded rangatira.” Many other messages of sympathyhave also been received.
