At the first club meeting of the Runanga Debating Club, Mr. W. Williams presided over a good attendance. Two debates were held. The first, “That the proposed new harbour at Greymouth is desirable and warranted for the future prosperity of 'Westland” was affirmed by Messrs A. Keown, R. McDonald, and F. Baxendale. Messrs W. Williams, Ron. McTaggart and H. Webb were the negative teapi. The second debate “That the most effective post war plan is an efficient international police system” Was affirmed by Messrs S. Braithwaite, R. Bowman and S. Kennedy. Messrs L. O’Loughlin, W. Patterson and R. McTaggart were the'negative team. Criticisms were given by the leader, Mr. W. Wick.
