The Banks Peninsula Racing Club had ideal conditions for its Summer meeting at Motukarara on Saturday and the attendance was one of the largest in the history of the club. The track was fast, although not hard, and there was some keen racing. The sum of £29,990/10/- was handled as against £19,763/10/- at the corresponding meeting last year, an increase of £ 10.227. The Peninsula Cup was won attracticely by Sir Gundi from St. Cloud. They fought out the principal event at Greymouth on the previous Saturday with St. Cloud then the winner by half a length. Gay Parade had a big break on the field through the back stretch, but as the straight was neared Palfrey, Sir Gundi and Scottish Dale closed on him, and for a while in the run home Scottish Dale showed out in front. Sir Gundi and Si. Cloud soon challenged and this pair settled down to a hard struggle, Sir Gundi winning by half a length. Gay Parade held on well to gain third money, beating Arctic Dawn by a head who got up to beat by another head Scottish Dale, Palfrey and Kevin who were practically in line. Sir Gundi was well ridden by the Riccarton apprentice, D. Thistoll, who had his first win in public on the same course last October, and has since done well at West Coast meetings.. Night Pal was withdrawn from the Peninsula Cup and produced in the Kinloch Handicap. He upset all calculations by dashing up nearmg the post and beating Rawhamai, who appeared to be in for an easy win.when he took charge inside the final furlong. Mauretania came with a late run to gam third money from Sham Boy, who was also a late arrival. Dmah Dhu led into the straight, but failed to carry on, while King Herod, Straight Bat, and Shikari were never likely.
