REEFTON NOTES

[OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.] REEFTON, March 8. Reefton was visited by a gale for some hours in the early hours of Sunday morning. The wind blew sheets of loose iron off houses and flattened small trees. Fruit crops also suffered. Torrential rain accompanied the wind, and on Sunday morning rivers and streams were swollen. No damage is reported. Sunday morning saw a break in the weather about ’ll a.m., and the day was beautifully fine, with hot sunshine. Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Patterson were week-end visitors to Reeftori. Private D. Blackadder is spending leave with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. Blackadder. The Home Guard Area School for officers and n.c.o.’s, which has been conducting a course at Reefton closed the instructional programme on Sunday, when a shoot, was held at Reefton on ‘A. Coy.’s newly-built rifle range. On Saturday, a visit was made to Fern Flat, where the mortar section fired a course with live ammunition. A practice was held during the afternoon with H.E. live grenade throwing.
