W.I. FEDERATION

HALF-YEARLY MEETING The half-yearly meeting of the West Coast Federation of Womens Institutes was held yesterday, when 13 Institutes were represented, including the following members ol tnExecutive: Mesdames Johnson, Longstaff, Rankin, Taylor, Thompson, Armstrong, Morgan, Cohen, Panckhurst. and R. A. Stewart (President). The following remits were uiscussed, and all were adopted. —• Runanga and Blaketown: Tnat we object to the high prices and destruction of vegetables and Iruit. Blaketown: That a handrail be fixed at the Greymouth Post Office steps for the benefit of elderly people. Moana: (1) That board allowances to children attending secondary schools be increased. (2) That the speed of the 6.45 a.m. Otira-Grey-mouth train be accelerated to enable the children attending secondary schools to reach school earlier. Waiuta: That the 'bus fare between Waiuta and Ikamatua be reduced. Greymouth: That extra coupons should be supplied for household linen, and for clothing for children up to five years. A motion was also passed supporting the Dominion Executive in asking that corporal and capital punishment should be reinstated. Mrs R. A. Stewart was elected from four nominations as representative to the Dominion Council. During the afternoon Miss Robin demonstrated the making of carpets and loose covers for furniture. Morning and afternoon tea were served by the Greymouth W.I. Items were contributed by the Blaketown W.I. Choir, and Mrs Fenton.
