HOKITIKA BOROUGH COUNCIL
MONTHLY MEETING [OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.] HOKITIKA, October 20. At the Hokitika Borough Council meeting, the Mayor, Mr A. R. Elcock presiding, the following members were present: Crs. W. H. Stopforth, L. S. Ross, K. Aitken, E. W. Heenan, D. P. Stuart, C. Caliari, G. Heinz and G. H. Chapman. The finance statement showed: Receipts £5099/9/5, expenditure £1,270 17/3. Accounts amounting to £1,455 9/6 were passed for payment. The Abattoirs’ report stated: Stock slaughtered during the month of September amounted to 30 cows, 31 heifers, 50 bullocks, 189 sheep, 19 pigs, 3 calves. Condemned: one bullock. Fees collected for the month amounted to £79/1/11. Fees for corresponding month last year £67 19/-. The Works Committee was authorised to inspect an additional tar boiler, and if suitable to purchase. Grading streets ready for tar-seahng was authorised as soon as grader is The Sexton’s and Driver’s reports were read and approved. The Sexton reported eight interments during the month, and. 90 for the year. Cr. Stopforth’s interview with the Westland County Council regarding upkeep of the Cemetery was approved. Cr. Duff reported on his sub-com-mittee’s inspection of the sea beach.— It was recommended that large quantities of sand should not be removed without the Council’s consent; also, that no further building should be allowed at the back of the west side building line of Revell Street. The matter of house-numbering in the Borough was referred to the Town Clerk to make the necessary arrangements.
Cr. Stopforth suggested that McAndrew Square be put in order. —It was decided to put three men. on the job as soon as possible. Mr C. B. Morrison, surveyor (as agent for Mrs I. Park) applied for consent to subdivide sections 3381 and 3382, Gibson Quay. The subdivision will have an area of 18.3 perches and a frontage of 51 links to Gibson Quay.—Referred to Clerk. Mrs J. L. Moore, corner of Park and Brittan Streets, wrote asking that the open drain in front of her residence be cleaned out and requesting the footpath be formed along the frontage of her property, as the fence is in the correct position.—Referred to Overseer. Mr H. W. G. Park applied to instal a septic tank at residence, Rolleston Street, section 869 A, etc.—Granted, subject to usual conditions.
