Mr. F. R. Picot, senior New Zealand supply officer in Australia, returned to the Dominion recently to report to the Government. Mr. Picot, who was accompanied by his wife and daughter, said that he was unable to state whether he would remain in the Dominion or return shortly to Australia.

The death took place in the Inangahua Hospital, last evening, of Miss Jessie Baird, aged 65. She was a native of Victoria, but had resided in Reefton for many years. She leaves four brothers, Thomas, Jack and Bert, all of Reefton, and William, of Greymouth, and three sisters, Mrs. T. Wernet and Mrs. E. Bennett, both of Melbourne, and Mrs. B. Monk, of Rotorua.

Mr. and Mrs. John George, of George Street, Onehunga, celebrated yesterday the seventieth anniversary of their wedding. As both Mr. and Mrs. George were born in Auckland 97 and 88 years ago respectively, the occasion is claimed to constitute a record for the longest partnership of the oldest living New Zealand-born couple. The marriage of Mr. and Mrs. George took place in the Church of the Assumption, Onehunga, on October 19, 1872, by the Rev. Father Paul.

Information relating to the Bishop of Melanesia (Bishop H. W. Baddeley) and certain members of the mission staff was given in Christchurch Cathedral during the Synod service last evening by the Primate (Archbishop West-Watson). He had been informed by the general secretary (Mr. F. C. Long, of Wellington) that Bishop Baddeley, Dr. Thomson, Mr. Bullen, and the womeen members of the .staff at Malaita were safe. At San Cristoval the mission workers, Messrs Hill and Reynolds, were also safe. From Guadalcanal Mr. Stibbard had been sent south. Latest advice of Mr. Rowleck was that he was in Tulagi en route to Malaita.
