PARLIAMENT
TO MEET NEXT WEEK
WELLINGTON, August 14.
The Prime Minister (Mr Fraser) announced to-night that Parliament would reassemble on Tuesday evening for the resumption of its session. When the House of Representatives concluded its business on July 10 an adjournment was taken to September 16, but the motion for the adjournment contained the usual provision that Parliament could reassemble earlier if necessary. Mr Fraser was unable to-night to give any indication as to the likely duration of the session, but it is not expected to be lengthy. A secret sitting will be held to discuss the war situation, and, if it meets the convenience of members, this will probably take place on Tuesday evening. Supplementary .estimates of departmental expenditure will be dealt with if they are available, and it is probable the legislation will include a bill further extending the Fair Rents Amendment Act, which expires ■at the end of October.
