RACING AND TROTTING

MEETINGS TO COME.

August 15.—Canterbury. August 22. —Pakuranga Hunt. TROTTING. August 22:—Forbury Park. August 29.—N.Z. Metropolitan. August 29.—Auckland. September 19.—Wellington. October 10. —New Brighton. October 24, 26.—Greymouth. October 24, 26. —Auckland. From Baby Bun: Baby Bun, who was raced with success on the West Coast by Mr. T. E. Coates will be represented on the turf this season by a two-year-old colt by Croupier. The youngster has been named Wee Bun, and will be raced by his breeder, T. R. George.

Great Run: A feature of the last race at Riccarton on Saturday was the great run put in by Cheddington at the finish. He was overhauling the leaders at every stride. It seems fairly clear that Cheddington needs a bit of ground to run over before he is seen at his best. He is engaged over nine furlongs on Saturday.

Poisoned Leg: Boloyna has been suffering from'a slightly poisoned leg since early last week and the affected part was heavily bandaged yesterday. Veterinary advice was against starting him in the Winter Cup, but he appeared to be much improved on Saturday morning. There was thus some sound excuse for his disappointing showing, as apart from the trouble, he had able to get through the desired* final work.

Greymouth - owned: A two-year-old parade will be held at Riccarton on Saturday next. The juveniles will be paraded in the birdcage, and will then be taken about a furlong up the straight, and sprinted home in two divisions. Included in the parade will be the Bulandshar-Killara gelding, Great Legend, owned by Mrs. I. E. Coffey, of Greymouth, and trained by C. G. Humphries. This trainer also has in his stable a likely looking colt by Croupier from Lady Bun.

Schoolina at Riccarton: Pekoe (A. Jenkins), Kanui te Pai (J. Williamson), and Foxiana (D. Bedstone) were companions over six hurdles at Riccarton yesterday. Foxiana hesitated slightly at the first, but when he settled down to the somewhat strange task set him he cleared each obstacle in his stride, and was always in front, his only blemish being at the last fence, to which he got a little too close. Kanui te Pai gave his usual dashing display, but Pekoe was not as impressive as his . mates. Pekoe had the biggest weight, and was conceding Foxiana about two stone, while on Saturday he. will be receiving more than two stone from him.

Riders for Saturday: Riding engagements have been made as follow for Saturday’s programme at Riccarton: —D. Redstone, Foxiana, Willow Wood, Greek Dancer; C.
