MONTHLY MEETING.

HOKITIKA, July 20. At the Hokitika Borough Council monthly meeting, the Mayor, Mr. A. R. Elcock presided over the following members: Crs. W. H. Stopforth, T. W. Duff, C. Caliari, S. G. Havill, and D. P. Stuart. The financial statement showed receipts £1,148/7/1, expenditure £1,034/9/7. Accounts amounting to £853/4/8 were passed for payment. Abattoir Report: Stock slaughtered for month of June amounted to 22 cows, 19 heifers, 67 bullocks, 192 sheep, 29 lambs, 29 pigs, 25 calves. Condemned nil. Fees collected for month amounted to £B7/10/3. Fees for corresponding month last year £79/3/6. The Overseer’s and Sexton’s reports were read and approved. It was decided to make the Borough lorry available to the Salvage of Waste Committee when required for waste collection.

Correspondence included: The Royal Humane Society, Christchurch annual appeal for funds.— £l/1/granted. 12638 Private J. V. Conning, N.Z.E.F., Middle East, acknowledging receipt of two parcels and thanking Council for gift. The Officer in Charge, Valuation Department, Christchurch, advising that the owner of Assessment 4/111/274 has applied for a revaluation of land under Section 3 of the Valuation of Land Amendment Act, 1933 and further that the Valuation Department is willing to reduce the Unimproved Value from £325 to £275 but the owner has notified that it offers the section to the Government for the sum of £2OO the price paid for it two years ago. The Department would be glad to know whether the Council desire to take any action at the Assessment Court. —No action taken. Mr. Eric M. Lakin, lorry driver, application for leave of absence to join the National Military Reserve. —Granted. The Medical Officer of Health, advising that a sample of water taken from the Hokitika reservoir on the 9th June, 1942, has been analysed and the water supply is found to be satisfactory.—Received. The Secretary, Westland Hospital Board forwarding copy of the Boards estimated receipts and payments for the year ending March 31, 1943, as approved by the Honourable the Minister of Health, and also a copy of the Boards receipts and payments for the year ending March 31, 1942. The Hospital levy on the Hokitika Borough Council for the year ending March 31, 1943 amounts to £2639/15/7 being a decrease of £163 19/9, on the previous year. The Secretary, Hokitika Public Library Committee, advising that the roof of, the library is leaking and the Committee would be glad if the Council would have the matter attended to. —Deferred pending report. Mr. E. W. Heenan pointing out the inconvenience of the present stop for the bus, lor Rimu, Kanieri and Woodstock and suggesting the position could be met by the Council agreeing to reserve a site for the bus on the north side of Weld Street at the frontage of the Hotel Westland. —Referred to Crs. Stuart, Duff and Caliari.
