AFFRAY IN GAOL
GOVR. & WARDENS INJURED.
SYDNEY, July 1.
Three prisoners savagely attacked the Governor and two of the Wardens of Bathurst Gaol yesterday. The trouble began in the bootmaker’s shop. The prisoners there attacked the warders with a blacksmith’s file, a piece of iron, and a piece of wood, knocking the warders down and damaging their ribs, and also inflicting other injuries.
The Governor of the gaol then arrived. He was also attacked. He received a severe cut on the back of the head and on the face. Police went from headquarters and they succeeded in quelling the disturbance, and placing the rioters under arrest.
Separate parts of the prison were dealt with to-day, according to the Gaol Regulations.
