MONTHLY* MEETING [our own correspondent.’] HOKITIKA, May 21. At the Westland Hospital Board’s monthly meeting, Mr. E. W. Heenan presided, the following members being present: Messrs S. G. Havill, G. If. Chapman, W. A. Jamieson, T. W. Duff and J. A. Murdoch. The Treasurer’s report showed: Receipts £798/7/6. Expenditure £2,183 0/10. Accounts amounting to £1,628 1/7 were passed for payment. The National Bank of N.Z. wrote approving of overdraft limit of £4OOO to June 30 next. The Department of Health wrote regarding growing of vegetables at public institutions.—Farm manager to arrange for supply of potatoes. It was decided to ask the Matron to report to the Board immediately any patient or inmate of the Old People's Home who leaves the institution without permission. This matter arose from complaints received regarding certain old men who made a nuisance of themselves in the town. The Medical Superintendent’s report stated: Remaining in hospital 31/3/42, 65. Patients admitted during April 100. Total treated during April 165. Patients remaining in hospital 77. The Matron’s report stated: Highest number of occupied beds 81, lowest 58, average for the month 68. No of massage and physiotherapy treatments 235, X-rays 231. Screenings 1, number of operations 51. I recommend that Miss Wallace be appointed junior Sister. The Engineer’s report stated: The following produce was sold to tne institution during April: Milk (588 gallons) £5l/9/-. Cream, 73 pints £3 13/-. Pigs sold, 2, £B/3/-. Eggs, 8
dozen, £l/4/-. Hens, 4 8/-. Vegetables, 1,551 lbs. £9/9/3. Total i.ti 3/3. The usual farm work has been carried out including gravelling cer:ain portions of the road around the aospital. I would like to remind the Board that the latest property acquired is being used by others. I would suggest fencing.
