MURDERS IN MELBOURNE
WOMEN-WORKERS ALARMED. MELBOURNE, May 21. There are fifteen detectives engaged solely on the investigation of the three recent murders of women in Melbourne. They practically are without any clue to help them as to Miss Hosking’s murder and have made little progress m the first two crimes. The knowledge that murderers are at large in the darkened city is terrifying the Melbourne women. There has been a marked absence of women and girls about the streets at night. Girls are now leaving their nightshift iobs when they have to walk home "alone. Some of the girl employees are applying for special police to be stationed on all of the night trams to escort the women travellers. Additional military provost patrols are being sent out to assist the police Dcitrols. * One city cafe with a big night trade is adding a dormitory so that its night waitresses can sleep on the premises.
