WAR EFFORT COMMITTEE

[to the editor.] Sii’. — We will be pleased if you will find space for the following statement: Fifty-three delegates, representing 42 organisations were present at the conference held in the Town Hall on March 23 last. These delegates elected a committee of 20, from the members present, four of these are also members of the Communist Party. The committee at its first meeting, at which 17 members were present, elected an executive of 11 members, two of these are also members of the Communist Party. Since then the Greymouth branch of the Civil Service Assn., and the Greymouth Ministers’ Assn., have appointed delegates who also sit on the general committee. We leave it to the public of Greymouth to judge for themselves whether four people can dominate and bring under their influence the other 18 members of the general committee, or whether the two on the executive can exert a Communist infiuence over the other nine members of the executive. Yours, etc., J. W. GREENSLADE (Chairman) J. SCOTT (Hon. Sec.) War Effort Committee.
