THREE INQUESTS

CONCLUDED AT GREYMOUTH. Inquest proceedings in three cases of sudden death were concluded at Greymouth, to-day, before the Coroner (Mr. G. G. Chisholm. S.M.). Sergeant R. C. Mcßobie represented the police. The first case was that concerning Francis Samuel Orr. 53. of Greymouth. a boring plant attendant, whoso death occurred in the south level of the Strongman State mine, on April 20. The inquest was opened on May 2. when the evidence was published in the “Star." Dr. J. F. C. Moore gave evidence to-day as to tne findings in a post-mortem examination. and said that death was due to coronary occlusion, associated with atheroma of the aorta and deposits in the valves of the heart. The Coroner returned a verdict in accordance with the medical evidence. Second on the list was the inquest regarding the death of Percival Roy Grenfell.’ 40. a snigger employed by Messrs Stratford. Blair and Co. at their Arnold Siding mill, who was found dead about two chains from the winch, on the afternoon of April 21. The evidence was published in the “Star’ 'on May 2. Dr. Moore said, to -day, that a post-mortem examination revealed that death was due 10 atheromatous disease of the aoria and coronary arteries. The Coroner returned a verdict accordingly. The final inquest was that regarding the death of Leslie James Baxter, 31, single, of Greymouth, which occurred on May 11 while he was working on the surface al the Wallaend mine, where he had been cm - ployed for 12 years. Evidence as to deceased's collapse was given by George Simon. surface worker. Francis Edward Lockington, mine manager, said that deceased’s job was not hard, having previously been done by a boy who had just left school." Evidence was also given by Constable J. AV. Hammond, of Erimnerton. Dr. W. A. Bird said that he had previously attended Baxter, and was not surprised at his collapse. The mecise cause of death was cerebral haemorrhage. The Coroner returned a verdict in accordance with the medical evidence.
