RACING AND TROTTING

meetingsto'come.

May 23.—Waikato. May 30.—Wanganui. May 30.—Napier Park. May 30.—Auckland. June 6.—Wanganui. June 6.—Auckland. June 13.--Hawke’s Bay. June 20. —Manawatu. ■ June 27.— Manawatu. June 27. —Dunedin. July 4.—Wellington. July 11.—Wellington. July 25, —S. Canterbury Hunt. August I.—Christchurch Hunt.

Withdrawn:—Native Song and De Friend have already been withdrawn from the Great Northern Hurdles.

Disappointing:—Kraal continues to race disappointingly, and.it is 16 months since she recorded her last win. She is a good track worker but her race form this season has not been good, although she ran a fine race for third in the Herries Memorial at Te Rapa.

On Trial: —Borak, a brother to Serenata, is to be tried over a distance at Te Rapa on Saturday, when he is engaged in the Horotui Hack of a mile and a quarter. He has been working well at Takanini, and on breeding he should relish the journey.

Unlucky:—Prince Shad has had one win and five minor places in eight starts this season, but he was unlucky that he had to be content with third place at Oamaru on Saturday last. With a clear run over the last half furlong he would probably have won, so he should be worth keeping in mind.

Looking Well:—Nothing is looking better than River Plate at Takinini, according to northern reports, and the son of Iliad and Gay Marigold-should be prominent in his engagement at To Rapa on Saturday. He is engaged in the Stewards’ Handicap of seven furlongs.

Gold Money Song:—At his last start, Gold Money Song ran a fine race at Ellerslie, where from the No. 22 position he just missed a place in the Mount Eden Handicap. This horse has a fine record at Te Rapa, and with a soft track, he may add to his record at Te Rapa on Saturday. He has 7.7 in the Stewards Handicap.

Dividend:—The hurdler. Dividend gave an excellent display over six hurdles at Riccarton yesterday morning, and he was taken north last evening, to compete at the Te Rapa meeting on Saturday. Later he will race al Ellerslie where he won two hurdle races last season. He will be ridden by I. Walther.

A Disputed Claim:—At Oamaru last week the Magistrate heard part of the evidence in an Invercargill case in which Julia Cuff is claiming from James Martin Samson .£293/7/4 for stud fees, groomage fees, and keep of various mares and their progeny formerly in her charge. The evidence concerned the condition on arrival at Oamaru at the stables of T. H. Gunning of a Quite Sure gelding, which died some months late)'.

Unlucky:-Prince Louis looked unlucky not to win Ihe Hack Scurry al Hawera on Saturday last. He was slow away, and hung out badly at the home turn enabling Darag to secure the winning margin. He came on again to run Darag to half a length. Prince Louis, who is a three-year-old by Hunting Song—Miss Louis, is engaged in the mile hack race at Te Rapa on Saturday, and also in the open seven furlongs.

Finished Well:—All Night was expected to make his mark as soon as he was raced in open company, but he has had two starts among the open sprinters and has yet to win. However, he is a slow beginner, and that lias been a handicap. At Oamaru he was finishing faster than the two who were in front of him. Lord Nuffield and Scottish Dale, and he should not have to wait long for victory. The way he has won over a mile suggests (hat he would be more at homo over that distance than in a straight-out sprint.

V. A. Lee’s Appointment:—The Groymouth trainer, V. A. Lee. has been appointed private trainer to Mr. A. 11. Fisher, at Wingatui. He will have four horses in his charge, including Attorney, and his apprentice, K. Thomson, will also go to Dunedin to continue his employment with Lee. Mr. Fisher won good races with Bonnie Winkie and Comic Song in the past. Lee. who served his apprenticeship with C. Carmont at Levin, .has ridden winners in many parts of New Zealand, and also in Australia. He has had success as a trainer on the West Coast for many years, and has ridden a large number of winners on West Coast circuits, including the Greymouth Cup on Warlike in 1919. on Wharfedale in 1923, and on Prosperity in 1924. Among winners he has trained at Greymouth arc Rothen, Free Rose. Arena (the dam of The Champ), Patrol. Feney. Awamutu, Wee Musk. Cardnlaver.. Miss Waifarere. Adina and Valantua. . He will leave shortly for Dunedin to take up his appointment.
