VOLCANO ACTIVE.
HONOLULU, May 18. The Army Department has revealed that the world’s largest volcano, Mauna Loa, on the island of Hawaii, exploded violently on April 26 and continued in eruption for a fortnight until the huge laval flow which threatened the city of Hilo was finally quietened by aerial bombing. At the height of its flow the molten lava reached within eight miles of Hilo, causing some damage to property. It was the volcano’s greatest activity since 1881.
