A Montreal cablegram announced the death of Thomas Bassett Macaulay, an insurance authority.

A London cablegram announced that Dr Lang on retirement from the Archbishopric of Canterbury, has taken the title of Lord Lang of Lambeth.

death occurred at Wellington on Friday, of Mr. Edward Francis Willoughby, a native of Woodstock. He was an engineer who had been associated with the AVellington city engineer’s department for 30 years. He leaves a widow and two daughters, both married.

Miss C. Close, of the staff of the Public Works Department, Greymouth, left yesterday, on transfer to Wellington. She was iarewelled prior to her departure, and presented with a leather hat box, the presentation being made by the District Engineer, Mr E. F. Evans.

The death occurred on March 22 of Mrs. Florence Adeline Woods, who was well known in musical circles in Dunedin. Born at Greymouth, she was an only daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Charles Seabrook, old identities of the West Coast. She received her early education at the Convent in Greymouth. She afterwards went to Melbourne to continue her studies at the Conservatorium of Music. On returning to her native town, Mrs. Woods took an active part in its musical life. Going to Dunedin, she was married to Mr. J. D. AVoods, and resided there until her death.

The death occurred at Christchurch, early on Sunday morning, of Mrs. Aileen (Erin) Kane, wife of Mr. Patrick Kane, manager of the Bank of New Zealand, at Geraldine, and formerly of Greymouth and Reefton. Deceased, who was a native of Greymouth, was well known as Miss Erin O’Reilly, in musical circles in Greymouth, prior to her marriage, and as nurse for the late Dr. J. W. McBrearty. She conducted St. Patrick’s Church choir for many years. She left Greymouth about 10 years ago with her husband to reside at Reefton, and later moved to Geraldine. She is survived by her husband, one sister, Sister Mary Stanislaus (Convent of Mercy, Greymouth), and one brother, Joseph O’Reilly (Tarawera, Hawke’s Bay). The funeral took place at Karoro Cemetery, this morning, and was largely attended. Requiem Mass was celebrated at St. Patrick’s Church by Rev. Father Long, assisted by Rev. Fathers Fogarty (Geraldine), Holohan, and O’Mahoney, and at the graveside the service was conducted by Rev. Father Fogarty, assisted by Rev. Fathers Long, Butler, Browne, O’Mahoney, Holohan, Gregory, and Kelly.
