HOKITIKA BOROUGH COUNCIL

MONTHLY MEETING. HOKITIKA, March 16. At the meeting of the Hokitika Borough Council, the Mayor (Mr G, A. Perry) presided over the following:—Crs. E. W. Heenan, W. H. Stooforth, A. R. Elcock, T. W. Duff, C. Caliari and S. G. Havill. The Treasurer’s statement showed receipts £1228/16/4, expenditure £ 1408/2/2. Accounts amounting to £7lO/0/1 were passed for payment. Stock slaughtered ai the abattoirs during February amounted to 32 cows. 31 heifers, 53 bullocks, 241 sheep, 18.1 lambs, 20 pigs, and one calf. Condemned: One cow. Fees collected for the month amounted to £97/17/3. Fees lor the corresponding month last year were £76/7/-. The District Public Trustee, Greymouth, claimed under section 69 of the Rating Act, 1925, in respect of part section 799/800 for the rating year ending March 31, 1942.—Cannot be granted. The Ross Borough Council advised that they are installing new waterpipes, and asked whether it would be possible to borrow Mr J. Cutbush for a week or so to supervise the installation oi the pipe-line, and the Council would make any necessary arrangements as to remuneration. —Approved. G. A. Adamson and E. W. Heenan, joint secretaries, applied for the use of Cass Square on Saturday, March 28, for the purpose of holding a monster gala day.—Granted. Mrs L. Selby, Park Street, applied lor permission to instal a septic tank on sections 1396/7. —Granted, subject to Health regulations. Mr F. Groufsky, jun., Park Street, applied Lor five loads of beach sana in front of his residence for the purpose oi completing his roadside lawn. —Approved. Mr L. H. Jackson applied for extraordinary domestic water service connection to non-rateable bach at the rear of Mr Yarrall’s shop in Revell Street. —Approved at £2 per annum. The Secretary of the Greymouth E.P.S. advised that in regal'd to E.P.S. circular No. 67 regarding evacuation, that his Committee proposes to hold a meeting in Greymouth about March 30 and to ask representatives of all E.P.S. organisations on. the Coast to attend. —Referred to Mayor and Clerk.

The Westland County Council wrote stating that the Controller oi Civil Aviation had been advised of the Hokitika Borough Council's decision not. to contribute to the maintenance of the Hokitika Aerodrome, and he has also been notified that the Westland County Council is not likely to continue the maintenance of the aerodrome, and the Controller has been asked to advise regarding the position in the future. The Secretary, Hokitika Library Committee, advised that the amount of subsidy required from the Council to continue the Country Library service until March 31, 1943. is £268. — Approved. A letter from the Hokitika Fire Brigade, regarding slit trenches, was approved. The Foreman’s, Sexton's, and Health Inspector's reports were approved.
