Mrs. S. O’Dea and Miss J. O’Dea arrived yesterday, from Cnristchurch.
Mr. R. W. Poschich. Arney Street, has been admitted to the Grey Hospital.
Mrs. B. Haughey, who has been the guest of Mrs. J. Griffen, Gladstone Siding, left, to-day, on return to Temuka.
The following are guests at the Albion Hotel: Messrs S. Jones, Alex Lake, C. L. Hardy, L. B. Scott (Christchurch), Miss Keenan, Messrs F. L. Harrison (Wellington), C. McEvory, T. F. Newton (Auckland Y E. J. Miller (Waiwera South), Miss J. Perkins (Sterling), Miss E. Toner (Balclutha), Mr. C. J. Page (Dunedin).
The death occurred at Frankton Junction, on Sunday, of Mr. George Alfred Ray son, aged 75 years. Deceased was formerly Inspector of Permanent Ways, Railways Department, at Greymouth. He is survived by two sons, Cyril and Walter (Frankton Junction), and two daughters, Mesdames Kiddey (Auckland) and C. Oxenham (Frankton Junction).
A London cablegram stated that the King had nominated Dr. William Temple, Archbishop of York, to succeed the retiring Archbishop of Canterbury (Dr. Cosmo Gordon Lang). The new Archbishop of York will be the present Bishop of Winchester (Rt. Rev. C. F. Garbutt) Dr. Lang’s resignation, which he announced last month, will take effect at the end of March. Dr. William Temple was born in October, 1881, the son of a former Archbishop of Canterbury.
The death occurred at the Westland Hospital, last night, of Mrs. Beryl Taylor, wife of Mr. Charles Taylor, of Wellington, aged 38 years. Deceased, who was a daughter of Mrs. T. Hibbs, of Camerons, was a native of Invercargill. She had been in ill-health for a number of years, and returned to the West Coast about two months ago, for treatment. She is survived by her husband and two sons, Petrie and Charles; also her mother, four brothers, John. Joseph, and Arthur Hibbs (Camerons) and Thomas Hibbs (Te Kinga). and three sisters, Mesdames G. Dawson (Te Kinga), A. Russ (Camerons), and C. Hende (Okuru). The funeral will take place at Karoro Cemetery, to-morrow.
