QUEEN’S MANNEQUIN

JOINS FIRE_SERVICE. LONDON, December 30. “The Queen’s mannequin,” Miss Sally Davidson, has joined the London Fire Service as a telephonist. Her peace-time job as one of Mr. Norman Hartnell’s models was to parade dresses for the Queen’s inspection. Now she will sit in a fire station watchroom taking messages and drafting pumps to fires. “I registered with the 21’s and was given the choice of various services,’ she said to an “Evening Standard” reporter. “I choose to be a firewoman because I thought the job sounded interesting.” Miss Davidson added that she had not been to Buckingham Palace for a long time. The Queen, like other women, has strictly rationed her wardrobe since cjothes coupons were introduced.

Miss Sally Davidson has dark hair dressed in a smooth roll, deep blue eyes, creamy complexion, friendly smile and quiet manner. She was chosen to wear the Queen’s dresses because she approximates most nearly to the Queen’s type. “The Queen is always charming to me,” said Miss Davidson. “She wastes no time in choosing her dresses, but makes up hex- mind quickly and sticks to her decision.”
