Mr. A. V. Oliver returned, to-day, from Hanmer Springs.

Mrs A. Ogilvie returned yesterday, from Christchurch.

Mrs P. Stephenson and Miss M. Stephenson returned yesterday from Auckland.

Sergeant A. E. Turley, will arrive to-morrow on a visit to his parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. Turley, Cobden. He will be accompanied by his wife.

The engagement is announced of Esme, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Coburn, Marsden, to David, youngest son of Mrs. and the late Mr. W. Methven, Greymouth.

At a meeting of the West Coast Rugby Union, last evening, a motion of condolence was passed with the relations of the late Mr. Charles Jones, a former member of the United Football Club, and a Buller representative player.

The death took place yesterday of Miss Mavis Kyle, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. Kyle, 27 Dormer Street, Christchurch, formerly of Greymouth. Miss Kyle, who was aged 34 years, died from acute appendicitis.

Rev. W. E. D. Davies, vicar of St. Matthew’s Church, Christchurch, will leave shortly for Fiji to act as vicar of Suva for the duration of the war, relieving Archdeacon Harris, who is now a chaplain in the Royal Navy. In the absence of Mr. Davies, Rev. E. C. Powell, of Oxford, will be vicar of St. Matthew’s.

The death occurred on Monday of Mrs. Elizabeth McFarlane, aged 100, the widow of Mr. Duncan McFarlane, a former Mayor of Invercargill. She was well known for work on behalf of soldiers in the last war. She celebrated her one hundredth birthday on Christmas Day.—P.A.

The funeral of Mr James Richardson took place at Karoro Cemetery, this afternoon, and was largely attended. Deceased, who was a Great War veteran, and a member of . the National Reserve, was accorded a military funeral. Members of the Reserve marched in the cortege from Nelson Street to the Cemetery. A firing party fired three volleys at the graveside, and Last Post was sounded. Members of the Brunner Branch of the Greymouth Returned Soldiers’ Association were present. Rev. C. A. Scarfe conducted the services.

The death occurred at her residence, 10 Town Belt, this morning, following a long illness,, of Mrs. Leonora Beatrice Reynolds, wife of Mr. W. E. Reynolds, of Greymouth. Deceased came to New Zealand, from London, with her parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. R. Baff, in 1894 and had resided at Greymouth since. Besides her husband, she leaves one daughter, Mrs. L. B. Penny (Stoke, Nelson), and three grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters, Mrs. Arthur Tomkies (Wellington) and Mrs. A. Turner (Christchurch) and two brothers, Robert (Whangarei) and Jack (Wanganui). The funeral will take nlace to-morrow afternoon, at Karoro Cemetery.
