Mr. Brendan Bracken has taken up his duties as Minister of Information, in succession to Mr. Duff Cooper, and yesterday he met the newspaper representatives working at the Ministry. —8.0.W.

The funeral of .Mr. Sterne Young took place this morning, at Karoro Cemetery. Requiem Mass was celebrated ar St. Patrick’s Church by Rev. Father Gregory and Rev. Father Holohan conducted the service at the graveside.

Passengers by this morning’s express to Christchurch included: Mrs C. O’Regan (to Wellington), Miss K. Gieseking (to Wellington), Mrs S. Shapcott (to Wellington), Mr and Mrs W. H. Larcombe, Mr F. J. Beer, Mr H. C. Harley.

The death took place at Greymouth, this afternoon, of Mrs. Jane Ann Wisdom, aged 63 years. Deceased was a native of Cobden and had resided there all her life. Her husband, Herbert Wisdom, predeceased her 18 years ago, and she is survived by four daughters and two sons. The daughters are Mrs. M. Marsh (Christchurch), Mrs. D. Campbell (Runanga), Mrs. R. Bennett (Cobden) and Miss May Wisdom (Cobden) and the sons, Lincoln (Cobden) and Eric (Seddon). She is also survived by four sisters, Mesdames N. Kittelty (Cobden), L. Smith (Morrinsville), A. Thompson (Auckland) and Mcllraith (Christchurch) and one brother, Mr. B. Noble (South Westland).

The death occurred at Greymouth at noon to-day, following a short illness, of Mrs. Mary Margaret Airey, wife of Mr. Edward Airey, Palmerston Street. A member of the Baty family, aged 56 years, deceased was a native of Greymouth and had resided here all her life. Besides her husband, she leaves a family of eight daughters and four sons. The daughters are Mrs. R. Linssen (New Plymouth), Mrs. W. Teague (Greymouth), Sister A. Airey (Westland Hospital), Mrs. R. Rudhall (Dunedin), Nurse M. Airey (Timaru 'Hospital), Misses Nancy, Shirley and Miriam Airey (all of G-reymouth). The sons arc Corporal E. Airey (N.Z.E.F., posted as missing), John (Ruru), Private W. R. Airey (Second Specialist Coy., Melbourne) and Stanley (Greymouth). She is also survived by two sisters, Mesdames L. Manderson (Christchurch) and J. McEwan (Runanga) and five brothers, Messrs. Joseph (Rotomanu), Thomas 8., Walton, Alfred and John Baty {all of Greymouth). The funeral will take place on Saturday, leaving the residence at 1.30 p.m., for Karoro Cemetery.
