BULL TERRIER FIGHTS
COAST CONTESTS ALLEGED. DUNEDIN, July 15. An allegation was contained in a letter from the Wellington Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals that bull terriers have been bred in Dunedin for fighting for money. The letter was discussed by the Otago Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals to-day. Contests were alleged to have been held on the West Coast, where, it was stated, cruel fights were staged for the benefit of miners. After discussion, the Society decided to write to a man against whom allegation were made, issuing to him a stern warning, and also stating that an explanation which he has given is not considered to be satisfactory. It was pointed out at the meeting that the Society is unable to prosecute in the present instance, owing to the lapse of time.
