PARLIAMENT RESUMES

A BRIEF SITTING. WELLINGTON, July 15. After a recess lasting from June 12, the House resumed at 2.30 to-day. The sitting was brief, occupying only half an hour, the House rising at 3 p.m., until 7.30 p.m. to-morrow, as a mark of respect to the late Member for Kaiapoi, Mr. Richard Wilson Hawke. Replying to an urgent question asked by Mr. J. N. Massey (Nat., Frankton), Mr. Nash reiterated that steps have been taken by the Government under the Cheese Registra - tion Order to provide more employees for the cheece factories. He also stated that the Government had taken definite steps to assist the farmers in obtaining labour for their farms, and particularly in providing accommodation for the employment of married men, and also liberal subsidies foi' the wages of inexperienced labourers, who might be engaged. Moving a vote of appreciation of the services and sympathy with the relations of the late Richard Wilson Hawke, late Member for Kaiapoi, who passed away last Saturday, the Acting-Prime Minister, Mr. Nash, referred to Mr. Hawke’s homely, honest commonsense qualities, and said that his capacity for taking pains was above that of the average man. Seconding the motion, the Leader of the Opposition, Mr. S. G. Holland, .said Mr. Hawke had packed useful service into his seventy-five years of life . He was a kindly man of simple habits, who had rendered a considerable amount of public service. Messrs Morgan-Williams and Kyle also expressed appreciation of Mr. Hawke’s services, the motion being passed unanimously. Mr. Nash then moved the adjournment of the House as a mark of respect to the late Mr. Hawke. In doing so, he intimated that the Budget would be presented at 7.30 to-mor-row night. The House would meet for formal business at 2.30 on Thursday, and the Budget debate would be opened on Thursday evening, when there would be two speakers, after which the House would adjourn until 10.30 on Friday morning for formal business. After this, the Budget debate would continue. LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL. WELLINGTON, July 15. Two re-apoointed Members, Hon. W. Perry and Hon. V. A. Ward, and two new Members, Hon. J. Cummings and Hon. R. Eddy, were sworn in when the Legislative Council reassembled at 2.30 p.m. to-day. Hon. T. O’Byrne and Hon. F. Waite, who were also re-appointed, were not present, the latter being overseas. The Council adjourned at 2.40 p.m., until next Tuesday.
