TANK CONTROLLER. SYDNEY, July 15. Senatox - Mcßride, Munitions Minister, has announced the appoxntment of Mr. A. R. Code as Controller of Tank and Armoured Fxghtxng Vehicle Construction. Mr. Code is technical adviser to the Vacuum Oxi Company of Australasia. The company is making his servxces avaxlable to the State for the duratxon of the W Mr. Code is a native of Australia. He Qualified in mechanical engxneerxng at the Melbourne University. He began his professional career xn assocxatxon with Mr. A. G. Michell, who is worldfamous as the inventor of the Michell Thrust Bearing, which makes possible high speeds at sea by the reduction of the propelloi' shaft speeds from turbines of hiffix horse-power. Mr. Code wined the’Vacuum Oil Coy. in 1929. He became Chief Engineer in its Automotive Division in 1931. Since December. 1940, he has been chairman of the Machine-Gun Carrier Maintenance Panel of the Munitions Ministry. X
DETAINED MEN.
SYDNEY, July 15. The Australian Council of Trade Unions to-day adopted a resolution protesting against the imprisonment of Max Provis and Horace Rauclxite, and demanding their immediate release. Max Thomas, aged 29, and Horace Ratcliff, aged 46, ax - e in custody foxbreaches of the National Securxty Regulations; They are on hunger strike.
