POLICE OPPOSE BAIL
INTIMATION OF RE-ARREST. CHRISTCHURCH, July 14. A statement that if bail were allowed the men would be re-arrested was made by Detective-Sergeant J. McClung in the Magistrate’s Court this morning when three men, Leslie Jack Davis, aged 30, lan Carr Douglas, aged 2G, and Graham Wilfred Morton, aged 31. all described as labourers, appeared on remand before Mr E. C. Levvey, S.M., charged with converting a motor-car valued at £lOO, the property of Donald John McLellan, to their own use. Mr J. Clark appeared for the accused. j , Bail was allowed amounting to £3OOO. Mr McClung asked for a remand until July 21, which was granted. When the accused asked for bail, Mr McClung said if bail were allowed it should be substantial. He then added that if bail were allowed the men would be re-arrested on other charges. n ~ in asking for bail, the accused said that they had not heard anything of the other charges. . The Magistrate: I know nothing about that. „ , . Bail was allowed at £5OO each in liis-own recognisance and one .surety of £5OO each.
