CORONATION CEREMONY

SPECTACULAR SUCCESS. The Regent Theatre was crowded last evening, for the finale of the recent Queen Carnival, the coronation of tne Navy Queen, Miss Eileen Hannan. The ceremony was an outstanding spectacle and a fitting recompense for the many hours devoted to the production by Mrs J. W. Hannan, and proved what can be accomplished when a producer has the co-operation of the performers. A well varied selection of concert items occupied the first half of the programme, and each artist was ’niveh the applause merited. The “terns were as follow: —Grand March. Army, Navy and Air Force, Soloist, Mr T. Hatch. Recitation, Miss D. Congreve; song, “A Nightingale sang in Berkeley Square,” Miss M. Wootton; trio. Misses L. Foster, C. PhiL lips, Masters G. Soster, H. Zampesi, R. Hill; Welsh ballet, Miss Trott’s pupils; song, “Sussex by the Sea,” Mr J. Boucher; tap dance. Miss M. Sinnott; humorous recitation, Miss P. Kiely; tap dance, Miss A Ward, song, “Fishermen of England, Mr T. Hatch; tap ballet, Miss Sinnotts pupils. . „ The pageant procession ot the Queens of History proceeded to the stage before the Queen-elect’s procession, and formed a colourful and arresting background to the coronation scene., 4 , The dignified entrance of the Royal retinue was the signal for loud ap- x plause, the procession taking a route to the stage through the body ot the hall, and finally forming a most imposing and picturesque scene as the attendants of each Princess and the Queen were Grouped in their allotted positions on the stage, for the Queenelect to make a graceful entrance. The frocking in the Coronation scene was the most effective yet seen in Greymouth. The ceremony of crowning was performed by Mr T. Learmont, as Lord High Chancellor, while the Mavor (Mr F. A. Kitchingham) fulfilled the office of Earl Marshal. Following the enthronement of Queen Eileen, was the presentation of Princesses Pat and Nance and the ladies in waiting. The Royal Court was entertained by concert items as follow:—Song. “For England, Mr Ritchie; song, “Rendezvous, Miss Alma Quinn, the gavotte being danced by Joan Moar, Audrey Nott, Margaret Rostern and Margaret Bourke. The solo in “There’ll always be an England” was taken by Mr K. Feh- • senfeld, and all the items were well received by the audience. The Coronation Choir were heard to advantage in “Rule Britannia” at the Queen’s entrance, followed by “Hail to Our Queen,” “Land of Hope and Glory,” soloist Mrs C. Hickman, and “There’ll always be an England,” interspersed at appropriate times through the proceedings. Prior to the conclusion, the Mayor (Mr Kitchingham) expressed thanks to the Queen and her Princesses lor the admirable parts they had played in the recent Carnival, which had entailed a great deal of hard wol’k. The committee were grateful for their help and that of their assistants. He had pleasure in making presentations to the Queen and Princesses on. the committee’s behalf. Mrs J. W. Hannan was then jaresented to the audience by the Mayor and thanked for her work in arranging the Coronation. The Mayoress, Mrs F. A. Kitchingham, presented a . beautiful bouquet to Mrs Hanhah. . .
