CYCLIST’S DEATH ’ NAPIER, July 14. A labourer, John Edward Neville, married, aged 58,. died in hospital this afternoon. While cycling this, morning he collided with a car. He then suffered a seizure, and was removed to hospital, Where he died four hours later. BOOT OPERATIVES AUCKLAND, July 14. The Government’s first boot operatives’ training school was . officially opened to-day by the Minister for Labour (Mr. Webb) in premises which have been taken over in New North road. Th first course is being taken by 25 men, and 15 women, who will bo intensively trained for 16 weeks before being absorbed into factories. Ail the men are ineligible for military service, eight of them haying leg disabilities, one being deaf and dumb, and the others being returned soldiers of the present war. While being ti aided the men receive a weekly wage of £4/13/-, and the women £2. those attending the present course were selected from about 200 men applicants ahd approximately 60 women. bo s<wn as this course is finished, another will be started, and already the school has received its first order, one for a large number of pairs of sandals ioi the Army.
