STOLEN YACHT
FOUND ON ROCKS. [per press association.] AUCKLAND, May 22. The A class cutter-rigged racing yacht Marangi disappeared from her moorings inside the breakwater of the protected anchorage at Orak'ei on Wednesday night, and was found on the rocks at Rangitoto this morning. A large knife and a pair of rubber gloves were found on board. It was discovered that the yacht’s moorings had been cut, apparently by the knife which was found aboard. The cabin door had also been forced, and the side lights taken out, lit and, hung. An attempt had been made to hoist the mainsail; but it seemed that Whoever tried to do this had been unable to complete the task, and had then tried to put two’ reefs in, so that when the yacht was found she was half reefed down.
"There was every indication that someone had tried to take the Marangi to sea. She was amply stocked with food and water for a long voyage. The yacht had been sailed into a prohibited area and had then run aground.
