CHRISTCHURCH CARS COLLIDE. [PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.] CHRISTCHURCH, April 25. One person was killed and three injured in a collision, between two motor-cars at Harewood, late this afternoon. Those involved were: — Killed: Frederick William Tavendale, aged 57, a freezing worker, of 52 Loftus Street, Papanui. The injured are: Frederick Arps, aged about 59 years, of 5 Howe Street, New Brighton. Admitted to the Christchurch Public Hospital with injuries to the left arm and thigh. His condition last night was Mrs. Tavendale, wife of Frederick William Tavendale. Slight head injuries.. Treated as an out-patient. Mrs. Arps, wife of Frederick Arps, Treated as ah out-patient. Tavendale was driving a motorcar with his wife and Mr. and Mrs. Arps as passengers. About 4.45 p.m., the car collided at the coiner of Burnside, and Russley Roads with another driven by Corporal Maurice Oakley Knight, aged 22. of Harewood aerodrome. Knight had just left the aerodrome and was travelling east towards the city. Tavendale was driving north along Russley road. . . Knight escaped without injury, but the car in which Tavendale and his passengers were riding turned over three times, and Tavendale was killed instantly. TWO CHILDREN FATALLY BURNT DUNEDIN, April 25. Two children, aged 10 months and two years, the children of Mr. and Mrs. H. J. Guildford, of the Public Works camp on the Haast Pass road, were burnt to death on Thursday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Guildford left the bouse to pay a short visit to the camp cookshop, and at the time the two children were sleeping in the house and everything appeared to be m order. Shortly after their departure a workman discovered the house to be on fire, but it was burning so fiercely that he was unable to enter. The remains of the two children were later recovered. FOUND DEAD. CHRISTCHURCH, April 25. Pascoe Harvey, a labourer, aged about 62 years, of Swannanoa, was found dead in bed at Tattersail s Hotel, this morning. FARMER SHOT CHRISTCHURCH, April 25. Henry Michael Harrison, a farmer, of Le Bon’s Bay, was found shot in the yard at his home, with a revolver in his hand. He was married, aged about 35 years, with two children. He bought his farm at Le Bon’s Bay about 12 months ago. WOUNDED IN NECK. DUNEDIN, April 25. While challenging a trespasser near the oil tanks in the early hours of this morning, Private Alexander Burrows, one of the guards of the area, tripped and fell on his bayonet, suffering a wound in the neck. He was admitted to the Dunedin Hospital at 1 a.m. No information is available about what happened to the trespasser.
