COMMERCIAL TRAVELLERS

ANNUAL CONFERENCE

[PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.]

CHRISTCHURCH, March 28

“While we are assembled here to further the interests of the Association, the most important, and for that I matter the only question which [ should prevail is the winning of the I war,” said the President, Mr. G. H. Christie, at the opening of the I annual conference of the United ! Commercial Travellers and Ware- ' housemen’s Association of New Zealand. “At this stage let us pay a j tribute to the wonderful courage and 'fortitude of the people of Britain. iTo them and other free peoples of the world we owe a debt of grattitude that can never be paid.” The Association, said Mr. Christie, had played a highly creditable part in the war effort. Members and their sons had made an excellent response to appeals for recruits for the armed forces. On the Home front, it was estimated that the total sum now raised by various Associations exceeded £70,000. The report showed an increase of 117 in the Association members, and of 60 in Club members. The financial position was satisfactory, disclosing a surplus. The election of officers resulted:—President: Mr. W. H. McLean (Dunedin); Honorary Treasurer, Mr. H. Wauchop; third member of the Accident and Sickness Board, Mr. S. A. Orchard; members of “N.Z. Traveller” Board: Messrs S. A. Orchard, G. E. King, and R. E. Voller; member of the Central Mortuary Benefit Fund Trustees: Mr. G. E. King.
