MINISTERIAL VISIT

. MR. NASH’S ACTIVITIES. Continuing his tour of the West Coast, Mr. W. Nash (Minister of Finance), accompanied by Messrs P. C. Webb and J. O’Brien, visited the Holland Settlement at Cobden, yesterday morning, and inspected the State houses. A visit was also made during the morning to Brunner, where Mr. Nash was welcomed by the Mayor (Mr. J. Smeaton), other speakers being the President of the Dobson. Miners’ Union (Mr. W.’ Purdy) and the vice-President of the Wallsend Miners’ Union (Mr. W. Barber). The Ministerial party was entertained at morning tea by the Brunner Borough Council. Blackball was next visited, the Minister being welcomed by Mr. R. Clark. At Dobson, the Mines Rescue Station was inspected, and a demonstration was given by the Superintendent (Mr. F. Duffy). Lunch was taken at Greymouth. Kumara was visited yesterday afternoon, and a welcome was extended to Mr. Nash by the Mayor (Mr. A. B. Spiers). En route to Hokitika, Mr Nash inspected gold dredges. A civic reception was given at Hokitika, last evening, the deputy-Mayor (Mr. A. R. Elcock) presiding. The Minister continued his journey south, to-day, stopping places including Ross, Hari Hari, and Wataroa. The party will staff at Waiho tonight, and will proceed to Weheka to-morrow. They will leave for Otago and Southland at the end of the week.
