When Bayly, the Ruawaro murderer, emerged from the condemned cell to walk to the gallows on the morning of his execution, he was calmly smoking a cigarette. Callous? Perhaps so—and perhaps not. Put yourself in his place and think of the mental strain he was enduring. The power of tobacco to soothe and comfort in moments of great emotional stress is well known. This is something the non-smoker can’t understand, but every real smoker knows how true it is. At such times the weed is a boon and a blessing unspeakable. But if tobacco is to exert its beneficent effect on the mind to the fullest possible extent it should be of fine qualitv. In this respect “toasted” undoubtedly holds pride of place. Toasting not only largely eliminates the nicotine, but gives this famous tobacco the renowned flavour and beautiful aroma so highly appreciated by smokers. The only genuine toasted brands, Cut Plug No. 10 (Bullshead), Cavendish, > Navy Cut No. 3 (Bulldog), Riverhead Gold and Desert Gold, challenge comparison with any other tobacco manufactured.—R.P. 3.—Advt.
