HOSTILITY TO NAZIS
[BY CABLE—PRESS ASSN.—COPYRIGHT.]
LONDON, December 27. Reports (from German-occupied countries reveal growing antagonism and resistance to the Nazi administration.
In Norway, sabotage is increasing. Those who attend meetings of Major Quisling’s supporters find when they come out the petrol tanks of their cars empty, their tyres deflated, and “traitor” scrawled on their cars, and the bodyguards of Quisling supporters are “beaten up” by gangs who lie in wait for them in alley ways near the halls where meetings are held. Recently the police had to be called into a school, where an attempt was being made to explain German plans. Norwegian doctors have unanimously turned dovyn a proposal to form a Nazi Medical Guild.
The Norwegian Legation in New York says that the Germans are confiscating 70001 b. of meat a day in Oslo alone. As a result of German confiscations, Norwegians find it almost impossible to obtain meat, butter, or eggs. Shops selling footwear and clothing have been closed until the New Year, after which a rationing system will be introduced. The Belgian Orthodox Church has declared that laws directed against the Jews are un-Christian, and has asked the Nazi Governor to repeal them.
