DOGS RESPONSIBLE
' FORMATION OF TOWN. ' Stray dogs with a taste for-chicken ■were responsible for the incorporated town of Dellview, N.C., perhaps the smallest'in the United States. 1n'1925 the three Dellinger brothers, operating a large chicken farm, were bothered by dogs. ’ The dogs, because of lack of, enforcement of county laws, played havoc with the fowls. Davis P.' Dellinger, another brother and a lawyer in near-by Cherryville, and a part-owner of the farm, came to the rescue. He conceived and carried out the idea of incorporating the farm as a town, by legislative enactment. Town ordinances against dogs running at large were passed and the farming Dellingers were made tbwn officers, armed with shotguns. ; ' ■ Ten years ago 'fire destroyed the chicken business. The farm was put back in crops, but Dellview remained a town with a population 'of eight—all Dellingers. '
