THANKS FROM BRITAIN. [PER press association.] WELLINGTON, December 10. The following letter, dated Sep-■ tember 23, has been received at the headquarters of the Lady Galway Patriotic Guild from the Marchioness of Reading, chairwoman of the women’s voluntary services for civil defence, London: — “We have received a shipment of clothing from New Zealand at a moment when it could not have been more welcome. Families in all parts of the country are suffering acute distress from the loss of their homes and belongings, and, with the colder weather coming, gifts of warm clothes are very greatly appreciated. “The work your guild and the different women’s institutions in New Zealand are doing is of the very greatest value. I am more than delighted to hear that further gifts are arriving. I cannot tell you how much everyone here ■is sustained. by the wonderful help and sympathy shown by the women of New Zealand.” . A similar letter has been received from Mrs Jordan, the wife of the High Commissioner.
