HOKITIKA SCHOOL COMMITTEE
MONTHLY MEETING. [our own correspondent.] 1 The monthly meeting of the Hokitika District High School Committee was held last Monday evening. Present: Messrs A. C. Armstrong (chairman), J. Lawrence, A. Leslie, R. J. Pedder, J. Laing, L. Graham, Rev. M. . Foist, and the headmaster (Mr C. A. I Batt). Apologies for absence were ' received from Messrs King arid Richards. Accounts amounting to £lO/11/6 were passed for payment. It was decided to pay a Christmas bonus to the caretaker. ' The headmaster reported the present roll number as: Primary 316, secondary 99, the average attendance for the month being 92.2 per cent. , It was decided to take out an in- ‘ surance cover on all property in the * school owned by the committee, and I which would not be replaced by the ! Board in the event of damage by fire. | It was decided to discontinue the i practice of inscribing the names of the winners on the cups won by the i scholars during the year, and to substitute a scroll with, the list of cup winners and to display it in a prominent position in the school. This was due to the heavy expense entailed in the engraving of the cups. > The usual grant of £3/3/- was made for a Christmas tree party for the infant children.
The headmaster reported that the breaking-up ceremony would take place on Wednesday, December 18. An invitation to attend is to be extended to the clergy, the Mayor and Mayoress, and Mr R. Wild (member of the Canterbury Educatioan Board). The chairman extended Christmas greetings to the committee and the headmaster and his staff, which were reciprocated by those present. It was decided to hold a special meeting on Monday next to discuss the holding of the annual picnic.
