GREYMOUTH’S’ LATEST GROUPS Six new Savings Groups were formed in Greymouth for the week ending December 7, thus advancing the total number to 43. The employees of the following firms made their first group deposits for the period:—Trumans -Ltd.; Miss Marshall’s Toilet Salon; Tates Footwear Ltd.; Golden Coast Co-operative Dairy Co. Ltd.; Brown Walters and Co. Ltd.; Hallenstein Bros. Ltd.; Grey Electric Power Board.; Customs Department; Inkste'rs Ltd..' Thirty-five individual National Savings accounts were opened, bringing the total to 129. In Greymouth, there are now 406 depositors of both classes. In- the country offices, 55 accounts were opened, raising the country total to 155. The grand total for this Postal district has reached 561. ■"' 1 It is known that the employees of many small firms'regard their number as too few to form a group. Nevertheless a group can be established if I the employees of two or three such i firms would combine and appoint one {of their number to act as . collector. A Group of this nature has already {been formed and it is operating very ;well. BRITAIN’S THRIFT RUGBY, December 8. The war savings campaign figure last week totalled £108,109,000. This is a remarkable figure, in view of a successful start made within recent weeks for £475 millions aimed at in the first year of the campaign. This brings the grand total to £490,800,826. The Gold Coast Spitfire Fund has now reached £50,000, states the Ministry, of Aircraft Production, while the “South China Morning Post” sent a further £2OOO for purchase of aircraft. . Northern Ireland’s Wai* Weapon Week yesterday passed the five million sterling mark aimed at, the amount subscribed being £5,105,540. RUGBY, December 9. Northern Ireland’s war weapons week closed at noon at the total of £6,475,413 —enough to provide three destroyers, in addition to the nine originally proposed.
